The population of a city increases at the rate of 4% per annum. There is an additional annual increase of 1 % in the population due to the influx of job seekers. Therefore, the % increase in the population after 2 years will be :

The net annual increase = 5%.
Let the initial population be 100.
Then, population after 2 years
= 100 × 1.05 × 1.05 = 110.25
Therefore, % increase in population
= (110.25 – 100) = 10.25%
If the length of a rectangle is increased by 10% and the area is unchanged, then by how much per cent does the breadth decrease?
Answer: (b)
Area of Rectangle = length × breadth
Here, length is increased by 10%.
But area is constant so that breadth is decreased.
Percentage decrease by = ${b - {100b}/110}/b × 100 = 100/11%$
In an examination it is required to get 336 aggregate marks to pass. A student gets 35% marks and is declared failed by 42 marks. What are the maximum aggregate marks a student can get?

Let the maximum marks be x
According to the question,
${35x}/100 + 42$ = 336
x = 840
The difference between 38% of a number and 24% of the same number is 135.10. What is 40% of that number?
Answer: (d)
According to the question,
(38 – 24)% of number = 135.10
or, number × $14/100$ = 135.10
or, number = ${135.10 × 100}/14$ = 965
40% of 965 = $965 × 40/100 = 386$
